Beck, 2014

Bot & Dolly was commissioned to design and operate Beck’s tour visuals for a quick run following a headlining Coachella performance. sixteen channels of audio from the band were used to drive audio-reactive, generative visuals, composed in TouchDesigner.

I built the underlying audio-analysis and rendering system, and collaborated with Bot & Dolly motion designers led by GMUNK on the creative. The scenes ranged from surreal desert landscapes to graphical-numerical representations of each instrument’s amplitude.

Amplitude

Each instrument’s amplitude is normalized and visualized in numeric icon treatments.

Waveform

The drum kit’s various elements such as kick, snare, and hi-hat are given their own linear tracks which draw images such as pyramids, crystals, and glowing orbs.
